Abby woke to the sun streaming in through the slats in the blinds. While the warm, solid weight of Gibbs was no longer behind her, she wasn't afraid. Gibbs wouldn't leave me alone unless the area was secured.

--Secure, safe in his arms, his breath mingling with her whispered pleas as he bore her back down to the mattress--

The smile that accompanied that memory faded slowly. Given the lingering scent of steam and soap from the bathroom and faint aroma of coffee that reached her nose, she had a pretty good idea where he was: two floors below, a fine coating of sawdust on his arms as he worked on his boat, no doubt trying to figure a way to distance himself from what happened last night and how to reassure her that it would never happen again.

What were they going to do now, when the light of day chased away the shadows that hid them from the world?

--Crying out beneath him, hard angles softened by moonlight and shadow, rocking her hips up to meet his thrusts in a rhythm as old as time, hearing her name stuttered against her neck as they both came apart--

Gibbs had retreated already, scrubbed her scent from his skin and washed her kisses from his mouth, a erasing last night with an ease that alternately pained her and irritated her. She frowned as irritation overtook the hurt, even as she understood why a man like him would retreat from something that, at least last night, felt right and good.

--Soft cotton of his t-shirt against her as he cleaned them both, soft kiss and whisper into her hair as he held her close again, drifting off with a smile as she felt safe once more--

If she stayed in bed for any longer, she would think herself right out of what she wanted to happen after last night. She'd done it before; she'd never gotten that new tattoo after she'd asked his advice about it either. He probably didn't give it a second thought after that conversation, but she'd chased every word around and around in her mind until the last thing she'd wanted to think about was a new tattoo.

Not this time.

She swung her legs around so her feet were on the floor and stood, ignoring the overnight bag for the first thing she grabbed from his dresser drawer. She didn't even bother with shorts or a shower since the faded USMC t-shirt covered her to her thighs and she didn't want the memory to be washed away before they both addressed it. No more hiding in basements or under long cotton nightgowns, no second-guessing or over thinking.

The memories of kisses, smiles, Caf-Pows and promises accompanied her every step. The remembered ecstasy of last night carried her through the basement door and down the creaky stairs. The peace she felt upon waking brought her to the workbench, next to the cooling cup of coffee and the tools he wasn't using.

"Abby--" He turned away from his sanding and looked at her. Abby suppressed a quick flash of pride at the quick flash of shock on his face. That got his attention. Good.

"Gibbs."

"Don't want to talk."

"Oh, we don't need to talk. I don't even want to talk."

This time she saw another flicker of surprise before he set his sanding tool aside and cocked his head at her. "Don't seem to want to wear pants either?"

She smiled at the gruff attempt at humor; she was already halfway there. Before either of them could think too much farther than that, she moved in close, sliding her arms around him. At least, that was the intention before he stopped her, his thumbs at her shoulders holding her gently away from him.

"Abbs..."

She felt her lips curl her grin into something more playful as she arched her brow, folding her arms across her chest. "Oh, now you want to talk?" Another downward flick of his gaze brought teeth to that grin.

"We can't do this."

"We did do this, Gibbs."

"That was last night."

"What's changed? Did it go away when the sun came up?" She moved closer, and when the pressure of his thumbs slackened, she rested herself against him, crowding him back against the hull of the boat. "Other things seem to be coming up..."

"Abby!"

She slapped her hands down to either side of his head before he could twist away from her, which also lifted the shirt enough to bring her bare against him, sensitive skin to faded denim and the warm press of flesh beneath.

"You didn't run from it last night when it was something we needed. Don't run now because it's something we want."

She met his gaze steadily, unwavering as he searched her eyes for whatever he hoped to find. She'd done all the talking she was going to do - now it was up to him. For anyone else, this might be a now-or-never moment. She didn't think it for a second. If he wanted her, she was his whenever he desired.

Such as right now, as he gripped her, spun her until it was her back up against the freshly-sanded wood. Right now, when his kiss was deliberate and almost bruising in its desperation and his erection grinding hot and hard and dragging the denim maddeningly against her. She moaned into the kiss and wrapped her arms around him again, nipping gently at his bottom lip and smiling when she heard him growl in response.

She lifted her leg, curling it around his hip as she tore herself away from the plunder of his kiss. "Upstairs," she panted as soon as she could breathe again. She promptly stopped, her head thumping back against the boat when she felt him slide his hand up her thigh.

"You sure about that, Abbs?" He nuzzled at her throat, stroking his thumb along her thigh in a way that made her whole body tighten in anticipation of where that touch would lead.

"Yes..." She dragged her eyes back open and smiled, leaning up to kiss his chin. "For as much as you've doted on this boat, I still don't want to chance any splinters in my ass."

His smile made her warm all over, and this time the kiss was far more leisurely as his hand glided from her thigh to stroke up over her ribs. "Point taken," he gruffed against her ear, still smiling. This time when he leaned back he drew her with him. "C'mon."

He followed her upstairs, his hand a gentle weight at the small of her back. Once they were in the bedroom, she turned to find him close again, crowding her back towards the bed the same way she'd done to him in the basement. As soon as she felt the bed against the backs of her knees, she sat down, grinning up at him and resting her hands on his hips.

"Like the shirt," he said, stroking his finger along the collar of the t-shirt. "Looks good on you."

"I can keep it on if you want." She traced her fingers along the edge of his waistband. She could smell herself on his jeans.

His finger paused at the center of its route, just touching the hollow of her throat. "Didn't say that."

She laughed up at him, flicking the button on his jeans open with a deft twist of her fingers. "Didn't think so."

She basked in his answering chuckle and smile, and then her attention was most definitely drawn elsewhere, the only sound that of Gibbs' quickening breath as she unzipped his fly and tugged at his jeans, making sure that he didn't end up caught on his underwear as....

The sight of him revealed made her gasp, then lick her lips, prompting another groan from above. Neither of them had indulged in this last night, and she wasn't going to let the opportunity go wasted here. She pressed a kiss to the tip of his cock, smiling as she felt his fingers slide into her hair and heard his strangled gasp. "God, Abby..."

He smelled so good - musk and soap and just the barest hint of sweat. She closed her eyes and drank it in, wanted to rub both cheeks against his shaft like a cat, but instead slipped her tongue out to taste the slickness that shone at the tip of him, her own moan swallowed back as she took him deep.

She'd never smell sawdust and soap the same way again.

His fingers tightened in her hair, scratching lightly at her scalp and making her groan along with him. She swept her tongue in wide strokes, side to side; she wanted to feel that again, and harder. She took her time with him, learning with every slow downstroke what made him gasp (press just so), what made him growl (oh god right there) and what made him finally drag her away from his cock and back up to his kiss, his fingers moving from her hair to the shirt, scrabbling it up and off her body as she did the same to him.

By the time they both made it down to the mattress, she was aching for him, arching beneath him as he cradled her in one arm, his other hand at her belly.

"Abby."

She opened her eyes to meet his, answering the glittering anxiousness with a touch of her finger to his lips, felt the memory of a familiar touch, the antiseptic smell of hospitals, the bullpen and grief as she moved her lips past his cheek to his ear. "Don't," she whispered. "Don't talk, just touch me, please, Gibbs..." She moved again, let him feel the heat against his bare thigh, and trailed kisses from his temple to his cheek to his lips again. "Please..."

He answered with another kiss, his arm tightening around her as the other hand cupped her breast, flicked her nipple with his thumb. She let her head fall back to the pillow when his kisses moved lower, fisting her hands in the sheets when she felt his lips close over her nipple. "Oh GOD--!"

She felt him smile around her, his lips brushing maddeningly at her sensitive skin as his voice made her clench with need. "Thought there was no talkin'." He dragged the rough of his tongue over her nipple before she could answer him, and this time she was the one that pulled him up to her, demanding with lips, tongue and body that he needed to be inside her now.

Just a tilt of her hips, a nudge of thick warmth between her legs, and he was there, with a slow thrust that took her breath away, the pleasure so great and the tight clasp of her body so desperate that she couldn't open her eyes.

When she was able to open her eyes and see him, saw the anxious glitter from earlier subsumed by desire, she thought her smile would split her face in half. She leaned up and kissed him, not needing words to tell him how wonderful and right he felt on her, in her, hard and trembling with the effort not to move. Yes. Good. Yours, always yours. She tightened herself around him, felt his breath catch as he finally started to move, bracing himself on one arm with the other still curled under her, his fingers clenched at her shoulder and pulling her to meet his thrusts.

Only then did they allow words, soft monosyllables breathed into ears, sighed against sweat-slicked skin and, as she felt herself crest and break against him, shouted into his kiss, swallowing his own cries a moment later as he followed her over the edge.

He stayed there as she came back to herself, braced above her as they both twitched with the aftershocks, nuzzling at her cheek and kissing her softly when they both could breathe again. She watched him, curious and a little wary as their eyes met again.

She'd been right before; last night was something they needed. Today was something they wanted, a deliberate and wonderful crossing of the Rule 12 Rubicon. What would happen now? Gibbs could compartmentalize like nobody's business, as the team found out when they found out about his first wife and daughter. Would he be able to do it now? Would she be able to do it to his satisfaction? God, she hoped so, because the thought of this ending here made her want to--

"Need a shower?"

He bent his head to her neck again, tasting the skin where it met her shoulder and rocking his hips so she could feel him again. When he looked back up at her, she could see the barest hint of a smile playing at his lips.

She grinned right back at him, leaning up to nip at his chin as she trailed her nails lightly up his back. "I think we both do."

"Then we talk?"

"Then we talk." Talking meant plans. Talking meant that this was far from over, and the thought of more made her warm everywhere.

He eased himself from her with a little hiss, one that she echoed as her body responded with a sluggish throb of sensation. She stretched as he stood and accepted his hand up that turned into another embrace and the warm press of soft kisses.

"Sometimes it's not about being worth killing, Abbs."

She felt the heat rise in her face as he remembered the words she said an eternity ago, sucking her lip between her teeth as she found herself unable to hold his gaze. It all sounded so stupid now...

He reached up to smooth the growing furrow between her eyes as she looked down, easing the shame away, and kissed her there as she leaned into his gentle touch.

"Sometimes it's being worth dying for."
