New fandom! (NCIS)

So, I’ve been immersing myself in NCIS. I now have five seasons on DVD and am currently working my way through season 4.

There aren’t many shows where I love every single character in the ensemble. There are characters I don’t like on Heroes (Mohinder, Nikki/Jessica/Tracy, Sylar), Fringe (Dunham), even Law & Order (the last two crews of ADAs on the original series) and Supernatural (Ruby…I really wish I liked her more).

I love everyone on NCIS.

Leroy Jethro Gibbs: Ohhh, the strong, secretive, protective leader. So very Skinner-slash-Jack Harkness that it twists my heart. I love his taciturn gruffness and the way he knows what his team is doing even when he’s not there when things happen. It’s even better when it’s the handsome Mark Harmon, who I absolutely cannot believe is in his late 50s.

Anthony DiNozzo: It took [livejournal.com profile] bloomingheather to point out where I’d seen Michael Weatherly before; our little Eyes Only has grown up even cuter! I didn’t recognize him because he was smiling. I love this character for the sarcasm and humor he brings to the show, but when he brings the angst, he really brings the angst.

Caitlin Todd: A former Secret Service Agent as of the pilot episode, she and Tony snipe and snark and ratchet the UST until you’re dying to say, "Just kiss already!" I miss her (she departed at the end of Season 2), but her exit was done in a way that worked for the show.

Abby Sciuto: Adorable. Brilliant. Very Kaylee, which makes me love her even more. Gibbs’s easy way with her is so sweetly paternal that I’m almost ashamed that my favorite NCIS fic pairs these two together. She is one of two people whose past with Gibbs allows her some leeway with him.

Doctor Donald "Ducky" Mallard: He’s the kindly old uncle who is a brilliant pathologist. Another one whose past with Gibbs allows him a little bit extra social leeway.

It might be the fact that both Ducky and Abby are civilians and not agents may influence Gibbs’s behavior towards them.

Timothy McGee: Ahhh, "Probie". He came on full-time in Season 2 and I’ve loved him ever since. He’s gone from a stammering newb to a more seasoned agent in the following two seasons. He and Tony are great together, and I have to find more McGee/Abby fic out there to see if there’s more to the couple that’s only alluded to in the early seasons.

Ziva David: The beautiful Moussad agent that came on when Todd left, she’s a wonderful combination of gorgeous and kick-ass. While her occasional stumbles over colloquialisms can grate when watching the episodes in bulk, she still rocks. She and Tony also have semi-heavy UST, which is interesting, and not the same kind that Tony and Kate had.

Even the minor characters are lots of fun. Gerald, Palmer, Ducky’s crazy mother and her Corgis...I swear, Don Bellisario’s a genius in knowing what people want to see, and I have to make sure to give his shows more of a chance instead of writing them off. This is a character-driven show (not case-driven) with characters that I love and want to see more of.

And I have at least a season and a half to catch up on before I’m watching week-to-week!

Anyway, I recommend this show quite highly to people looking for a law enforcement type show with good story, great characters and a reason to laugh every week. Reruns are on USA and new episodes are on CBS Tuesdays at 8pm EST.

Now to find more fanfic! My thoughts on what I find in future fangirly posts.

Welcome to the fandom!
*grin*
I've watched NCIS and Gibbs since the cross-over ep. with JAG. It's not my primary fandom, but I greatly enjoy the show.
